CR&S Week
2024 CR&S Week Program
Our CR&S week is designed for employees and stakeholders to actively participate in defined causes.
At FirstBank, we are committed to growing our people, minimising our environmental impacts, meeting the needs of our customers and investing in the communities in which we operate.
Our commitment to nation-building largely informs our approach to corporate responsibility and sustainability CRS which is three-pronged: citizenship, stakeholder management and impact management. Citizenship and stakeholder management involve considering the needs of stakeholders when making decisions, while impact management is about minimising our negative impacts and increasing our positive inclusive impacts on society. It is about creating long-term
stakeholder value by leveraging opportunities and managing the associated environmental, social and governance risks. The CR&S approach is contained in the Bank’s corporate responsibility policy. The policy clearly outlines our commitments and approach to corporate responsibility, as well as the Bank’s CR&S governance framework. The policy’s scope and respective guidelines apply to operations and activities throughout the Bank, including the subsidiaries across all locations, stakeholders and associated partners representing the Bank.
The CR&S approach is designed to deliver value in a structured way along four key areas:
Education, Health & Welfare, Financial Inclusion; and Responsible Lending & Procurement.
Ensuring Economic Stability for the Present and Future Generation
Our community development initiatives are anchored on our strategic Education, Health and Welfare pillars. Our engagement in sustainable business practices is based on our promise to enhance economic development and ensure economic stability for the present and future generations.
Our key programmes include FutureFirst programme; Infrastructure Development programme; Start Performing Acts of Random Kindness SPARK; and Employee Giving and Volunteering Programme.
E-Learning Initiative
The e-learning offering provides students with opportunities to access e-learning solutions. With a target to move one million students to e-learning, the initiative is designed to close the gap created by the indefinite closure of all educational institutions nationwide due to the COVID-19 crisis which has kept children idle.
We believe that children can easily be forgotten at this time, hence it is important to meet their peculiar needs and ensure they remain resourceful and fully engaged so they can compete favourably with their peers internationally. Over 150,000 people have been impacted by the initiative.
Partnerships
We are currently partnering with IBM; Roducate/Lagos State Government; Curious Learning. We are also a member of the Global Education Coalition led by UNESCO. In addition, we are working towards onboarding our next set of partners including Microsoft, in the next phase.
Learn in-demand skills that will improve your employability skills and ability to perform better at work or business in 2 hours or less.
The Jobberman soft skills training focuses on equipping and empowering young people with the necessary skills, knowledge, and attitudes to secure decent jobs and succeed in the workplace or business.
Curious Learning
We understand that early literacy plays an important role in a child’s future and have partnered with Curious Learning to help address the challenges associated with early literacy.
Curious Learning offers academic-based content for students aged 3-8, using fun, self-guided learning apps to help them develop cognitive skills at a fundamental level. It is an open platform that addresses the deployment and learning challenges faced by under-resourced communities, particularly limited access to literacy instruction.
Through the Curious Learning platform of early literacy apps, games, toys, and robots we have provided opportunities for and enabled children to develop their cognitive skills and enhance their educational progress (see our CR&S report for details).
